Penticton

The Penticton RECON site is operated by Penticton Secondary School under the direction of Bruce Gowe. Bruce has been introducing students to astronomy since 1998. In 2012, Bruce and a number of senior physics students constructed a freestanding observatory with a metal dome roof fitted to a shipping container that is currently located in a great location on the Naramata bench several minutes north of the lights of Penticton. The latest telescope in use is a 16″ Meade LX200 graciously donated by Jack Newton from Osoyoos. Penticton Secondary joined the Recon team in 2018 and have already enjoyed over a dozen campaigns and look forward to many more. A major highlight of the team was observing an occultation of Leleākūhonua (the Goblin).

The first picture below shows the Penticton High observatory, and the bottom picture is a mosaic of Bruce (middle bottom) and several of his students who have taken part in RECON events.
