The Reno, NV site is associated with Fleischmann Planetarium and Washoe County School District. They are made up of dedicated educators and students from the University of Nevada, Reno and Truckee Meadows Community College.
RECON is important to Reno because they say it’s a chance to do real science, as well as improve their skills as astronomical observers. They are excited about the telescope data collection sessions, the incredible citizens science opportunities for public engagement, and the opportunities for students to get into STEM through the lens of astronomy. Some of their favorite RECON memories include being one of the first teams to form, being completely self-trained, using skills they have from an experienced video engineer on the team to improve the imaging process, having the team gain an experienced member from another team, catching an occultation early on in the project, and using what they have learned to assist a visiting NASA astronomer to catch an asteroid occultation.
