#RECON Observing Logsheet #Use the template below to document all video files collected during each #night of observing. All video files should be placed in a subdirectory #of /Data labeled with the UT date of observation (e.g. /Data/YYYYMMDD). #Use "Save As" to resave the logfile into this directory using the #UT date of the observing night (YYYYMMDD_log). The log file is an #essential part of any observing session for keeping track of observations. #Provide information for each FIELD listed below. A SAMPLE logsheet is also #available at #http://www.tnorecon.net/reporting-observations #Please don't hesitate to contact tnorecon-org@mailman.swri.boulder.edu #if you have questions. #SITE - Name of your community (eg., Madras) #LOCATION - This is a backup to the position video record you should have # collected. You can provide the actual lat/lon as measured # by any GPS device, or, a description of your observing site # so that someone could later figure out where you were on a map. # This information does not replace taking the position video. #FIELD CONDITIONS - This is general information about the weather and sky # conditions. You can be as quantitative as you like (for # instance, providing actual temperature and humidity) but it is # sufficient to provide a qualitative description of the night: # clear, cloudy, patchy clouds, etc., and things like "cold and # calm but frosty" or "very windy". #VIDEO FILES - Remember: files from a single night should be in the # C:\Users\RECON\Data\YYYYMMDD\ # directory (where YYYYMMDD is replaced by the UT date). # The video file names should all be of the form # YYYYMMDD_NN.avi # where NN is a two-digit, zero-padded number that will start # at 01. You won't see the .avi part in the File Explorer but # that's what VirtualDub creates. # You are only required to list two items for each file: # the name of the object recorded or purpose of the file # and the sense-up value used. # Provide comments as needed to document the observations. If # you encounter timing problems, noting external timing information # in the comments field would be a great idea. Only provide as # many lines as you have files. #You may find it more convienient to write down notes by hand on a piece of #paper while observing and then later transcribe those notes to this log file #format. ---------------------------- UT DATE (YYYYMMDD): SITE: OBSERVERS: LOCATION (LATITUDE, LONGITUDE, ELEVATION): FIELD CONDITIONS (e.g., SKY CONDITIONS, TEMPERATURE, HUMIDITY, WIND): LINE FOR EACH VIDEO FILE (_FILE#, OBJECT OR RA/DEC, SENSE-UP, COMMENTS): _01, _02, _03, _04, _05, ... ---------------------------- #As much or as little descriptive information about your experiences on this #night that you care to share. This can be descriptions on how well your #team worked together (or not). Lessons learned. Problems to be resolved #for next time. Suggestions for improving any part of the RECON system #or experience. It is especially important to document anything that might #help in understanding the data you collected for the scientific analysis to #come.
