The Parker, AZ site is associated with Parker High School.
RECON is important to Parker because they say is a great opportunity for students, teachers and other community members to participate in astronomy research and enjoy the benefits of ‘backyard’ astronomy in a group setting. They are excited about RECON because it allows ordinary, astronomy-loving people to become citizen researchers in cutting edge astronomical science. “We get to observe and record occultations of asteroids and other objects as far away as the Kuiper belt! Now THAT’s cool!” Some of their favorite RECON memories include the first time they saw a full occultation. Their excitement attracted some attention from the neighbors who thought they were either partying or fighting. They didn’t expect to find a group of people ‘nerding out’ next to a telescope!
